The video games mental health charity join us to discuss mental health awareness and wellbeing
It’s Mental Health Awareness Week here in the UK and at Firesprite we’re discussing and celebrating the importance of breaking stigmas and supporting mental health awareness and wellbeing.
We started our Mental Health Awareness Week with a visit from our good friends Rosie and Sarah of Safe in our World who joined our team for an incredibly insightful workshop and Q&A session for our sprites.
Safe in our World is a video games mental health charity on a mission to foster worldwide mental health awareness within the video game industry. The charity has a vision of “a global games industry where every business treats mental health with equal importance and respect, and everyone feels they can speak out” and “a world where video game communities are free from prejudice and stigma, where every player feels safe.”
After an introduction to the current state of mental health in UK gaming, the origins of Safe in our World, and an in-depth review of the invaluable content and resources they provide; Sarah and Rosie explored the topic of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week: loneliness.
A deeply painful experience which can impact us all; loneliness is a particularly poignant topic in today’s world. Sarah and Rosie demonstrated the strong link between feeling lonely and strain upon mental health. They gave our sprites so many useful tips on how to support ourselves when feeling lonely and explored some of their community’s favourite go-to games to combat loneliness, support mental wellbeing and stay connected whilst apart.
We had an excellent Q&A session, where the Safe in our World representatives opened the floor to our sprites and provided us with incredibly useful resources to help support ourselves and each other.
Loneliness can have a huge impact on our physical and mental health, and at Firesprite we understand that our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to helping to protect our mental health.
All throughout this month we’ll continue to spotlight mental health awareness and combat loneliness with various events, clubs, and workshops, fundraising and mental health training. Watch this space for more updates!
Firesprite signed up as a Level Up Mental Health partner in 2021 and we are committed to working together with Safe in our World to create positive change within the industry; eliminate stigma and foster a safe and supportive environment for our team and player’s mental health at all times.
We’d like to say a huge thanks to the incredible ongoing support of Safe in our World from our whole team, and a very special thanks to Sarah and Rosie for taking the time to spend with our sprites.
