The video games mental health charity join us to discuss anxiety and wellbeing
The theme of Mental Health Awareness month this May is anxiety, and our partners at Safe in our World joined us today to talk all about its symptoms, causes and to share useful coping strategies with us.
Safe in our World is a video games mental health charity on a mission to foster worldwide mental health awareness within the video game industry. The charity has a vision of “a global games industry where every business treats mental health with equal importance and respect, and everyone feels they can speak out” and “a world where video game communities are free from prejudice and stigma, where every player feels safe.”
The wonderfully warm and informative workshop covered the varying symptoms and causes of anxiety and how it can impact daily life at home and work, and the team talked us through coping strategies and relaxation techniques. The interactive session also allowed our sprites the opportunity to ask questions and share thoughts throughout; a huge thank you to our sprites who offered some of their own experiences and coping techniques.
We also learned incredibly impactful ways to foster supportive environments in the workplace. From team leaders creating open, honest and flexible conditions, to understanding the signs of anxiety, so that we can all help and look out for one another or identify when someone needs support.
Firesprite signed up as a Level Up Mental Health partner in 2021 and we are committed to working together with Safe in our World to create positive change within the industry; eliminate stigma and foster a safe and supportive environment for our team and player’s mental health at all times.
Anxiety can have a huge impact on both our physical and mental health, and just talking about it plays an important role in breaking stigmas and supporting mental health awareness and wellbeing. Our session today highlighted ways we can all better manage our own anxiety and practices we can employ in the workplace to support others who may be experiencing anxiety.
We’d like to say a huge thank you from our whole team for the incredible ongoing support of Safe in our World, and a very special thanks to our hosts for taking the time to spend with our sprites today.
