Relocating to our new home in Liverpool’s vibrant city centre
It’s an incredibly exciting day for team Firesprite as we move into our brand-new studio space!!
A New Chapter in Our Story
The move to our new studio space is a significant step forward for Firesprite in helping us fulfil our vision of becoming a creative powerhouse within the PlayStation Studios family. Located right in the heart of Liverpool city centre, the space has been furnished and designed to reflect our creative ambitions and studio values. It celebrates our culture and achievements and is architected to suit our technical and physical needs for future growth.
Collaboration and inclusiveness are key pillars for the studio, and by rebuilding our physical and digital infrastructure in a space designed to support the new paradigm of working, we hope to ensure that all sprites feel connected to the new studio, whether they are working within the building or at home.
Designing for the Future by Celebrating the Past
The building itself has a rich history of pioneering creativity, engineering and knowledge for our city, something which aligns perfectly with our vision to provide incredible, cutting-edge experiences for our players!
Since the 1800’s, the space has housed a library, maritime business, museum and newsroom before becoming home to our studio. We’ve kept subtle nods to the building’s significance to our home city in our design - with our own library space and cues to the maritime heritage in the fittings, furnishings, and original raw details throughout.
Abstract shapes, industrial style light fittings and materials such as wooden slats and stone finishes are a symbol of the innovation of days gone by, whilst geometric shapes and decals throughout reflect the Firesprite brand and future vision.
Architected for Creativity and Collaboration
Whilst the studio is decorated to celebrate history and innovation in our home city, our technical set-up is designed to support our ambition to become a pioneer of creativity.
To deliver blockbuster experiences to gamers worldwide, our new studio space has been developed from the ground up and has been architected to house a collaborative, unique space which will support both onsite and remote working.
All sprites will be set up for success with the latest tech and amenities. With numerous zones to support all styles of working and spaces for wellness, planning, leisure, quiet focus, training, summits and more. Wellbeing, collaboration and innovation will be supported at every turn.
Plus, it’s most definitely not all work and no play here, with our own gaming areas, retro arcade, pool table, refreshment stations, leisure areas and social hubs!
Built for Wellness & Inclusivity
At Firesprite, we want to embrace the presence of every single sprite by creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected and empowered to contribute and thrive.
Our Diversity & Inclusivity mission statement is: ‘promoting a visible commitment to a culture of inclusion and mutual respect across Firesprite, in order to recruit, retain and develop talent from every walk of life, reflecting the community that we make games for’.
Our new studio is the latest opportunity for us to embody that mission, designed in tandem with our sprites to meet their needs. Collaboration and inclusiveness are key pillars for our team, and we’ve incorporated optimum accessibility, a prayer room, neurodivergent spaces, gender-neutral bathrooms and new parent nursing areas.
We understand the importance of creating a positive and productive work environment which is why we also have dedicated breakout areas, social hubs, wellness rooms and refresh stations dotted around the building, so sprites can unwind and relax throughout the working day.
A Sustainable Today for a Brighter Tomorrow
Firesprite is a climate positive studio. We’ve planted over 50,000 trees so far with Ecologi and recently partnered with Whale & Dolphin Conservation, so we also want to ensure that sustainability is a key theme throughout our new space.
The design of the space itself has maintained many of the original features, reducing the carbon footprint of the overall project. 100% of waste will be recycled, real plants naturally purify the air throughout, and low energy lighting with added sensors means that lighting will only be used when areas are occupied.
Finishes throughout the building have been intentionally selected due to their recycled content percentage, including all of our task chairs, which went through a ‘design for the environment’ process to ensure that they have been developed with fewer parts and recyclable materials.
Our New Chapter Begins
A decade after our initial studio set-up , Firesprite are now over 250 sprites strong and developing exciting projects as part of the PlayStation Studios family.
This year, we celebrated the recent release of Horizon Call of the Mountain with our good friends, Guerrilla, and more thrilling plans are ahead for us. Now, with a new studio designed from the ground up so that we can create the best experiences for our players in an inclusive and collaborative way for our team, in many ways, even 10 years on, it feels like we’re only just getting started.
We’d like to wholeheartedly thank our community, partners and friends for all your continued support. We truly can’t wait to show you more of our new studio and what’s next for Firesprite!
