Firesprite raise £1,340 for SpecialEffect

Team Firesprite take part in the Northern Masters in aid of the gamers’ charity

Every year, SpecialEffect host a fundraising ‘Games Industry Fives’ five-aside football tournament to raise money and awareness for their incredible charity which transforms the lives of people with physical challenges; optimising inclusion and quality of life through innovative technologies.

A huge thank you again to our nimble-footed sprites who represented team Firesprite at this year’s Games Industry Fives Northern Masters in Liverpool on May 23rd. Wyn Livesley, Tommaso Mercantini, Ricardo Reguilon, Carlos Delgado, Ruslan Frolovichev, Kevin Ua-wanapaksa and Aiden Rimmer; a huge thank you to you all for your time and efforts, we’re all so proud of you!! And a HUGE too thanks to our sprites whose generous donations helped us raise £670, which Firesprite matched, for a total of £1,340 in our ongoing fundraiser for the whole year set up to support the invaluable work which SpecialEffect do.

It was another incredible day for seeing devs come together for a fantastic cause. Our team Captain, Wyn, said: “Team Firesprite headed down to the Powerleague to represent the company for the 4th time, placed in a tough group of 6 teams. We finished the group stages with 1 win and 4 losses. This secured us a playoff game to qualify for the knockout competition. After going 2-0 up early on, our opponents rallied to finish the game 2-2. We subsequently fell to an agonising 3-2 loss in a penalty shootout. Aiden, Charly, Kevin, Ricardo, Ruslan, & Tommaso all played brilliantly, and the day was really fun. Most importantly, SpecialEffect raised over £25,000 on the day across the 3 football events they were running up and down the country!”

Congratulations to SpecialEffect on another absolutely fantastic event! We’re all so proud to support this the life-enhancing charity. See some of the incredible stories the team shared with us recently when they joined our studio on Global Accessibility Awareness Day to tell us more about their pioneering work.
