International Women’s Day is a day to “Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness about discrimination. Take action to drive gender parity. IWD belongs to everyone, everywhere.”
Last year, we celebrated the women of Firesprite across all disciplines, spotlighting what the theme of 'Break The Bias' meant to our sprites, and for the games industry.
In 2021, our women embraced the 'Choose to Challenge' theme, offering their time for a series of in-depth interviews; challenging gender stereotypes, sharing their experiences as women in games, and offering advice to women aspiring to join the industry or advance their career.
We’re proud to have supported the celebration of women in gaming through our sponsorship of the MCV/Develop Women in Games Awards in 2022 and 2023, as a 2022 sponsor of the Women in Games Global Awards, and by joining the Women In Games Corporate Ambassadorship program; embarking on a new level of commitment with the fantastic organisation as a Corporate Ambassador.
As well our Corporate Ambassadorship pledge to “engage with multiple initiatives, activities, events, research opportunities, awards and showcasing talent. And connect directly with our Education and Individual Ambassadors as well as our wider community”, we also aim to continue to empower our own community of women at Firesprite. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is 'Embrace Equity', and this actionable statement was one our women and allyship got together today to discuss in a special session.
The group had an open and frank discussion about their own personal interpretation of gender equity, issues facing women in the workplace and in our industry, and pitched actions that Firesprite could undertake to continue to ensure the studio successfully embraces equity.
